Another item from Facebook We don't often visit the "official" family website of Patsy Cline because in our opinion there is so seldom anything of real interest there, but we spotted something last night that had been posted back on March 14th, presumably by a representative of the family.
It referred to the new CD "The Divine Ms. Cline" and claimed "no, this is not new recordings..." and further asserted that "there are no unreleased recordings of Patsy."
We were quite surprised to read this, since the new CD does, indeed, have 20 NEW overdubs of some of Patsy's finest vocals (as the front cover of the CD clearly states). The packaging also makes it clear these are "new musical settings." A team of professional musicians, singers, orchestrators and engineers worked very hard to re-do 20 of Patsy's songs which, by any reasonable standard, makes them new recordings and they are copyrightable as new creations under EU law (where the CD originated), whereas many of Patsy's "old" recordings are OUT of copyright in the EU. So even the applicable laws recognize them as new recordings.
As to the point that the new CD contains "no unreleased recordings of Patsy," that too is a surprising statement, especially since a family member enthusiastically assured us that they had never heard the live tracks of Ms. Cline before!
In fact, the exact quote was: "The live songs were really good to be so old, they sounded clean and clear as well... I had never heard that version of her live singing before.....so all together it's a job very well done... I think the fans will be thrilled when they buy it and hear it."
We have since learned that at least ONE of the live tracks had been released years ago, but to our knowledge (and we relied on some long-time Patsy fans for our research), the other FIVE had never seen commercial release.
If the family would care to elucidate this, we'd welcome any input. So please tell us the release date(s), the label(s), and the name of any CD(s) on which the live tracks have ever been commercially released. We assume any information you'd share would be verifiable.
(Being traded amongst a small clique of collectors or posted in raw form on YouTube doesn't count).
One would almost think the family was trying to discourage fans from hearing all the wonderful new music contained on "The Divine Ms. Cline." But they wouldn't do that, would they?

Two items found on Facebook about the new CD and the politics behind what appears to be active suppression of it in the USA [1] Thanks to all those who are visiting this page and LIKING IT. Now we need your help is spreading the word about this Facebook page AND especially the wonderful NEW CD called "The Divine Ms. Cline." So please post everyplace on Facebook you can, to tell people about it! There has been publicity overseas about this release, and also Billboard magazine here in the U.S. recently did an article. But most of the other U.S.-based Patsy fan sites have not said a word about the release, after Charlie Dick publicly posted promises of STEAK DINNERS for a couple of webmasters who removed any mention of this CD and are preventing any fans from talking about it on their sites! We believe fans have a right to make up their own minds about this CD of new overdubs. It is THE BEST new CD on Patsy to come out in decades. For proof, you can hear samples, (and order the product), by going to www.patsyclinemusic.net[2] Patsy Cline The Divine Ms. Cline You're right about the Historic House. But here's a little secret: One of the key people behind that facility sent messages to the producer of "Divine Ms. Cline" when the CD first came out and said ""I love the name of the CD. And the pic on the front is not one that I remember seeing. I'm excited to hear it... It's always nice to hear new interpretations... I'm always eager to hear her sound fresh and new. Her music means so much to so many... I listened to the clips... I loved them." In a series of emails this person also assured "I'm telling all the other Patsy fans to buy this CD. It will do well!" But then when he realized the "Divine Ms. Cline" was not endorsed by Charlie Dick and Julie Fudge, (even though Patsy's own SON *did* go online to praise it lavishly), the guy associated with the Historic House changed his tune and became hostile. What does that tell you? It's ridiculous. We live in a free society and people have a right to make their own choices without censorship or fear of any reprisal. You can still buy the 1,442 Patsy CDs being sold on Amazon that only have the same old tracks. OR you can choose to listen to something NEW. What's wrong with hearing Patsy's great voice showcased in new musical settings that let you hear her better? Webmasters who have bowed to this pressure and prevented fans from mentioning this new CD on their sites ought to be ashamed of themselves, and they are NOT looking out for the best interests of the fans when they do that.

The new CD is well worth listening to. 26 tracks all with new musical settings that may not appeal to traditional country musicians but the new arrangements enhance Patsy's voice lifting it above the backing group allowing Patsy's voice to be heard with better clarity. It is called The Divine Ms Cline www.patsyclinemusic.net/published by H and H Music on HHCD912 www.handhmusic.co.uk

The Zoning and Planning Committee of Winchester City Council have re-newed the provisional CUP ( Conditional Use Permit ) for the house at 608 S Kent St to be operated as a museum / tourist attraction. This provisonal CUP was granted to CPC in May 2009 for three years after which it would be re-viewed.
Rumours about a possible closure may have arisen due to complaints from residents in the area about problems caused by the parking of vehicles ( visitors, staff and volunteers ) not being in compliance with the conditions of the CUP

Some questions that I hope someone can answer.
Did Hilda own a car(s) and if so what make (s)? It is said that she drove her car to take Patsy to Nashville. How many hours would this trip have taken ?
Was there much crime in Kent st in those years.

Hi Bill
Last June ( 2011 ) I met up with a couple who were very active fans of Patsy here in the UK and they have found the same. The fans and admirers are still there but communication between fans has been a lot less and meetings have been held less often and then they are less well attended.
Most admirers seem to be happy to listen and admire the voice without being active in any way so maybe until there is some news about new releases or about events in Patsy's life or career there will be very little activity.
That said there is talk of something being planned in Europe for March 2013. possibly a memorial or tribute that is accessible for fans and admirers in Europe without incuring the costs of trans-atlantic fares.

! I'm in NY and aware that there is not that much to see in her hometown apart from the grave and bell tower and am just waiting for either the house or museum to open to FINALLY get down there. We were in Winchester in June 2002 and Doc Madagan at Gaunts Drug Store has created and maintains a sincere tribute to Patsy. Even though he was very busy he made time to make us welcome and spoke to us about her.

Does anyone have official word on what the hold up is? The group Celebrating Patsy Cline Inc should be able to give an "official" reason but they remain silent about an opening date. There were rumours about un-foreseen difficulties with materials in the renovation and these required the employment of specialist contractors On the 02 June at 16:48 their face book page did say in reply to a question about an opening date Patsy Cline Historic House Hopefully by end of month.....but that question and answer have now been removed from the page. Also the toll free phone line seems to be "out of service".

An informed source tells me that organisors of a bus trip to visit the the house in the last week of June were unable to get confirmation that the house would be open for visitors and that therefore the trip to visit the house did not happen.

Suzi Quatro has made an excellent and informative 90 minute program about Patsy Cline It can be heard on line at www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/console/b011j36b until June 6th 2011 Well worth listening to A long chat with Mandy Barnett But some of the contributions near the end are from people who really knew Patsy and seem to provide some new insights.

This is the second call for volunteers, and the house now seems to have moved from South Kent Street.

in fact Mrs Kempf is now the "Executive Director" of the Historic House renovation project.
Information about progress towards the slated opening in Late Spring is hard to obtain. E-mails are not replied to.
Some people in Winchester are speaking of un-expected but necesary extra work that will delay the opening until the summer.
But there seems to be no "official" statements coming from the managers of the project or the media are ignoring them.

This book contains very little that is not included in previous biographies, it does however have many references to the sources from which the information came.
My confidence in the book ends on pages 368 and 369.
On page 368 the procedure behind the installation of the Historic Marker outside 608 S Kent St is described. This happened in 2005.
On page 369 the words are It would take five more years for CPC to open 608 South Kent Street as a historic house, complete with tours and displays of rare Patsy Cline memorabilia. Responsible for this was Judy Sue Huyett-Kempf who reconstituted the CPC board, and worked to raise the necessary money. Finally, in 2011, fans had a central place to find Patsy Cline in Winchester
At the time I write this ( May 1st 2011 ) the Historic House is due to open in late spring or early summer ( quote Winchester Star ) 2011. It has been stated that many of the exhibits in the house will be replicas of memorabilia due to concerns about security and environmental limitations in the building.
It is ironic that a book which Mrs Kempf states is the " first thoroughly researched book" makes no mention of the expensive and failed efforts between 2006 and 2010 that CPC made to open a museum in 134 North Loudoun Street. A museum which in 2006 they had promised would open by the end of 2007.
Also as I write this there are suggestions coming from a trader on the Mall where the museum was to open that some unexpected problems have been discovered during the renovation work at 608.
