Aloha Everyone, I'm brand new here and am wondering if someone can explain some things to me about Patsy's recordings. (I have recently fallen in love with Patsy all over again after attending the play, "Always, Patsy Cline" at a local theatre in Honolulu. I always loved "Crazy", "I Fall to Pieces" and "Sweet Dreams of You" from my high school days.) I have just received my boxed set of 4 CD's, "The Patsy Cline Collection", which seems to include most all the songs she recorded. In checking the Internet I see that there are some CD's that have been "remastered". Can someone explain this to me? Has new music been added to her voice as she sings or has the sound quality just been improved. What other albums/CD's should I try to collect to get dilfferent background music (original or new) and songs not included on this collection? I guess I'm just confused and would appreciate clarification. Also does anyone have any of her songs that are practically impossible to get that weren't actually recorded in a studio? I'd love to hear from anyone. You can answer me here or email me at alohabyana@aol.com.

"Remastered" just beens the original recordings have been cleaned up and sometimes they may balance the instruments or vocals. The reel to reel tapes they used to make Patsy's recordings were 3 track. During the remastering process the techs may feel the drums need to be louder for example so they would turn them up. Sometimes vocals need to be enhanced, etc. Most of Patsy's cds are original. A good example of one were they added new instruments would be the soundtrack from the movie sweet Dreams. Many of the songs from this movie are Patsy's vocals with new instrumentation. To answer your other question there are many great Patsy cd's out there. Here's a few I would recommend. 1. Patsy Cline 20th Century Masters 2. Greatest Hits (the newer version with original LP artwork). 3. Patsy Cline Birth of a star. Live recordings from the Arthur Godfrey show. 4. Patsy Cline Live at the Opry 5. The essential Patsy Cline 6. Patsy Cline live at the Cimmarron Ballroom from 1961 (sound quality suffers on this cd). 7. Patsy Cline Gonna shake this shack tonight 2008 release with many new alternate takes. .................... Also yes there are many recordings that Patsy fans have that are not public. Also there have been several DVD's released to the public that offer tv clips of Patsy singing. The newest DVD with full length songs is Patsy Cline sweet dreams still. Hope this helps.

Shane, Thank you so much for clarification. It really helps. Do you know if there is a Patsy forum where there has been discussion of fans having recordings that are not public and if they have been sharing these with other fans?

Sharing rare recordings between fans (to my knowledge) is not widely done. There are copyright issues that could get some one in the hot seat. It basically boils down to respect to Patsy's family and estate. Recordings that may be shared with some one looking to make money off of them, could be a bad thing. I hope this helps to answer your question. Others may chime in here to give different opinions.

Shane, thanks for a great education. FYI, whilst in Nashville recently I had a chance to visit with Charlie and Julie and they mentioned the box set is no longer in print. Charlie was going to speak with MCA about it being back in print in the future. Until then there is Ebay.

There are times when sharing of music between fans on a strictly non commercial basis could be considered acceptable.
Eastern Europe that was behind the Iron Curtain was one area where copying could be considered as acceptable. . The very limited amount of legal imports and smuggled records available to the general public meant copies were made and circulated among fans of western music. This was often done between fans free of any cost other than the cost of the blank tape and perhaps a couple of beers.
There was also a black market of copies of records sold at inflated prices as "genuine" imports. That was un-ethical and criminal.
But there is also the case where agents, copyright holders and others with "legal" ownership of music will sit on the masters and wait until the right "commercial" moment to release the recordings. This delay is aimed at getting the most profit. While commercially good for profits this can be un-ethical and dis-respectful of the fans of the artist. Sometimes that commercial moment never comes and the recording is never released. Perhaps that is another case for fans sharing what is available if the masters have previously come into public domain in some way.

Bernard You have made some good points here also, thanks. There have been some Patsy recordings released on import labels that have not been released here in the states. Bear Family Records released several alternate takes on the recent "Gonna Shake This Shack Tonight" Patsy Cline CD. Great collection by the way.

I also wanted to add that while the "Gonna Shake This Shack Tonight" CD is an import, it can be purchased here in the States. Amazon, Ebay, etc. There are also many rare photo's included in the booklet. My favorite song on this collection is the alternate take of "I Don't Wanta". It's a faster version.

Mahalo to everyone for their comments in reply to my post. I think it's wonderful that Patsy fans come here to "chat". And I'm amazed to receive so many replies to my post. I never knew that Patsy had such a following. I only discovered this site last week. I am not a country music fan, but I've always loved Patsy's "cross over" hits, "Crazy", "I Fall to Pieces", etc. Just last week I received my boxed 4-CD set from Amazon.com - The Patsy Cline Collection - and have been playing the CD's continuously. I just can't seem to get enough of her voice. I'd like to get my hands on as many of her songs that I can find and would love to send Patsy fans a "goodie" box from Hawaii if they would be willing to share any "unofficial" recordings they might have. Of course, I don't want to try to sell them or anything like that out of respect for her and her family. I'd just like to have them to listen to. If they are not available commercially, I don't see why it would hurt. Are there any songs on DVD's that are not available on CD's, and has anyone been able to get these songs to CD's? I'd appreciate any more information anyone can give me. I'm just a "novice" right now concerning her songs that are available and the ones that are not available.
Much Aloha, Ann Adams

Bill, Thank you so much. Your list really helps. I just received the Patsy Cline Live at the Cimaron Ballroom CD from Amazon.com today and heard her sing some songs I had never heard her sing before. It's always exciting.
