What Patsy Cline means to me is basically summed up in my letter to Julie that I've posted here in this forum regarding CPC.
I was seven when I first heard her voice. Though I was facinated with her talent, her life story is what captivated me. I instantly got my hands on everything that I possibly could to find out more about her. I bet my book reports from the 2nd through the 7th Grade were all on her - slide shows and all! Needless to say, half of the people I went to school with know about her because of those reports and, since I grew up singing her music in talent show contests, they still ask "Are you still a Patsy Cline fan?"...
She has been a constant source of inspiration in my life because of the life that she lived...The giving and compassionate heart that she had... The drive she had to achieve her dream in a time when it was hard to do so...The integrity of her character and her outspoken nature to be vocal about what she viewed as right...the self confidence she displayed even when she didn't feel she could hold her head up high...the down to earth nature she displayed that endeared her to everyone dispite the fact that she was one of the world's greatest vocalists...her faith in her family and God...her appreciation for life...
When my Dad died years ago, over 900 people came to his funeral. And out of all of those people who came through to the line to pay their respects, I still remember a friend of ours telling me "You know, as soon as your Daddy said 'hello' to the Lord, I'm sure he went looking for Patsy Cline to tell her about you!"
From the time you are a child until you're an adult, life changes so very much. People, places and the life around you changes.
Patsy Cline, like my faith, is something that has remained a constant friend through it all...and a reminder that no matter what, life is so very, very good.
Happy Birthday, hoss.
I love you.
Thanks for everything.
